How can you help GCC spread hope and gratitude? Let us count the ways

Thanksgiving is a season of gratitude — but it also kicks off the season of generosity and … yes, goodwill! At GCC we play a role in helping look out for others through our mission to remove obstacles to employment. And by donating your gently used clothing, household items or toys to one of our donation centers, you’re also helping ensure that those who are struggling have access to basic necessities at affordable prices.

Your donations to Goodwill also help fund job training programs, employment services, and career development opportunities, which empower individuals to gain financial independence. During the holiday season, when unemployment and financial stress can be overwhelming, these services are life-changing for those seeking new opportunities.

Additionally, donating to Goodwill promotes sustainability by reducing waste and giving items a second life. Instead of contributing to landfills, your donations support a circular economy, benefiting both the planet and the people in your community.

This Thanksgiving, donating to Goodwill is a meaningful way to spread hope and gratitude, and is as easy as it is impactful. Here are a few ways you can contribute:

  • Conduct a winter purge: GCC encourages all residents in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo counties to begin the purge process. It’s fast, easy and convenient. Take a look through your garages, attics and closets for items you no longer need or use. Donating gently used clothing, especially winter coats, boots and accessories can go a long way to provide others with warmth and dignity in times of need. Household items such as kitchenware, small appliances, linens, and furniture are sought after by families everywhere. In addition, toys, books, and children’s clothing can make a big difference for families during the holidays.
  • Find a donation center: You can drop off your donations at any Goodwill Central Coast donation centers listed here, knowing that your generosity will make a real impact on the lives of individuals and families in your community.
  • Make a monetary donation: Remember, if you don’t have items to donate, consider making a financial contribution. Every dollar you give helps change a life and protect the planet. Your tax deductible donation goes towards our vocational programs that give job seekers the skills to become valuable employees. It also helps us pay our employees and run the retail locations that allow us to pursue our mission. You can donate by check (payable to Goodwill Central Coast and mailed to: Goodwill Central Coast. Attn: Charitable Giving, 1566 Moffett St., Salinas, CA 93905. Or you can donate online here.
  • Spread the word: Our donors are the lifeblood of what we do, but there are many other ways you can support our mission. The simple act of telling a friend or family member about GCC’s mission helps bring awareness to our services. Consider working a mention of Goodwill into the conversation at this year’s Thanksgiving get-together (or on your social media platform), and you’ll be making a difference in your community.
  • Shop for treasures: Generosity comes in many forms, and no matter how you choose to give, GCC uses your gift to fund many services in our community. The most fun way to support Goodwill’s mission is by shopping at your local Goodwill retail store. You’ll discover amazing deals on unique finds and even brand-name clothing, shoes, accessories, household goods, and more. How about a new Thanksgiving outfit for family photos or a DIY centerpiece with supplies from Goodwill? Every single item you purchase helps to support our programs and service, and that’s worth sharing for all to see. If you do post your #GoodwillFinds on social media, don’t forget to tag us at GCC!
